Tata Motors Demerger

What is the effect of the TATA Motors demerger in my Portfolio and Demat account?

Tata Motors has completed its demerger into two listed entities:

Record Date: 14 October 2025

As part of this corporate action, you have received 1 share of TATCOV for every 1 share of Tata Motors Ltd. held on the record date.

Steps to Update your Portfolio for Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. (TATMOT):

1. Manually add sell transactions for each of your earlier buy transactions of TATMOT to offset your holdings.

2. Add a new Buy transaction to reflect the revised cost allocation, using the Cost Apportionment ratio:

i. Transaction Date: Date of purchase of original shares of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. (TATMOT)

ii. Quantity: The demerger ratio is 1:1, so the number of TATMOT shares remains unchanged.

iii. Revised Cost Price Calculation = [Total transaction cost (incl. brokerage & statutory charges) × 68.85%] ÷ Quantity

For example, if you had purchased 100 shares of TATMOT on 1st April, 2025 (i.e., on or before the record date) at a price of ₹700 per share, and assuming you paid ₹100 towards brokerage and statutory charges, then your total transaction cost becomes ₹70,100, resulting in an average cost of ₹701 per share.

If you wish to update the revised buy entries for this transaction, the calculation will be as follows:

Revised Cost Price = [Total Transaction Cost (including brokerage & charges) × 68.85%] ÷ Quantity

= [₹70,100 × 68.85%] ÷ 100

= ₹482.64 (per share)

Steps to Update your Portfolio for Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles Ltd. (TATCOV):

We have already updated your portfolio with the newly allotted TATCOV shares as a part of Demerger. If your portfolio is not updated, then you can update it by following the steps below:

Add a Buy transaction using the cost Apportionment ratio:

A. Transaction Date: Date of purchase of original shares of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. (TATMOT)

B. Quantity: The demerger ratio is 1:1, so the quantity remains the same

C. Cost Price Calculation = [Total transaction cost (incl. brokerage & statutory charges) × 31.15%] ÷ Quantity

Using the same example:

Cost Price = [Total Transaction Cost (including brokerage & charges) × 31.15%] ÷ Quantity

= [₹70,100 × 31.15%] ÷ 100

= ₹218.36 (per share)
